Timo Werner is a professional footballer from Germany who plays as a forward. He is currently a member of the Premier League club Chelsea as well as the German national squad. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, to a football coach. He began his training as a kid, joining his father’s club TSV Steinhaldenfeld. At the age of six. He moved on to VfB Stuttgart by the age of eight. Everywhere he went, he amazed his coaches with his strength and speed, shooting with both legs. By the age of fourteen, he was playing in international matches for Germany’s U15, U16, and U17 teams, scoring a hat-trick in his first appearance for Germany U15 against Poland.
He began his club career at the age of sixteen, playing for VfB Stuttgart’s U-19 squad, scoring 24 goals in the 2012–2013 season, and remaining with the club until it was relegated in 2016. Following that, he joined RB Leipzig, where he spent four seasons until joining Chelsea.
Childhood and Adolescence
Timo Werner was born in Stuttgart, Germany on March 6, 1996. Sabine Werner is his mother’s name. His father, Günther Schuh, was an amateur footballer who played as a striker for Stuttgart Kickers before retiring to become coach of TSV Steinhaldenfeld’s higher junior squad. He started his workout with him.
Timo Werner was six years old when Schuh took him to TSV Steinhaldenfeld, where he got training from youth trainers. He went around the field while Schuh coached the bigger boys, asking how fast he was after each loop. He also took his youngster on a run up the hills to work on his stamina.
At the age of eight, Timo entered the VfB Stuttgart academy, where he astonished his coaches with his speed and strength, continuing to score goals and compete with larger boys with ease. His bullets were so powerful that he appeared to be five years older than he was.
Club Professionalism
Timo Werner began his club career with VfB Stuttgart’s U-19 team in 2012–13, scoring 24 goals and earning the Gold U-17 Fritz Walter Medal for his efforts. He was sixteen years old and a student at Stuttgart High School at the time.
Despite his success in the industry, he persisted in his studies at his mother’s insistence, eventually graduating from high school in 2014. At the same time, he kept going with his career. He made his senior debut against PFC Botev Plovdiv in the 2013–14 UEFA Europa League qualifying phase.
In 2013, he was also chosen to play in the Bundesliga, where he appeared in 30 games during the 2013-2014 season. On November 10, he scored two goals in a 3–1 win over SC Freiburg, making him the youngest player in Bundesliga history to do so.
He signed a professional contract with VfB Stuttgart on March 6, 2014, as he turned eighteen, and he played thirty-two matches in the 2014–2015 season and thirty-three in the 2015–2016 season in the Bundesliga. He scored thirteen goals in ninety-five appearances for VfB Stuttgart.
When VfB Stuttgart was relegated in 2016, Timo Werner was forced to go to the newly formed RB Leipzig. On June 11, he agreed to a four-year contract with the club for a rumored fee of €10 million.
In 2016–2017, he played 31 league games and one national cup encounter. He scored 21 goals this season and became the youngest player to play in 100 Bundesliga matches when he appeared against 1. FC Köln on September 26, 2016.
In 2017–2018, he appeared in 32 Bundesliga games and scored thirteen goals. Among them was his game against Bayern Munich, in which he led his club to a victory over the Bundesliga giant.
Timo Werner was also invited to play for the German senior team in a friendly match against England in 2017. It was, however, not his first international game. Previously, he had played in 48 international matches for the German U-15, U-16, U-17, U-19, and U-21 teams, scoring 34 goals.
In May 2017, he joined the German squad for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, where he scored his first international goal against Cameroon on June 25. On June 29, he scored Germany’s third goal in a 4–1 semi-final triumph against Mexico, and on July 2, he assisted on the tournament-winning goal against Chile.
He made his World Cup debut against Mexico on June 4, 2018. However, his team was eliminated in the group round, so he was unable to demonstrate much of his talent there. He did, however, continue to flourish at home.
Timo Werner appeared in 30 Bundesliga games in 2018-2019, scoring 16 goals. Among them were two goals he scored against 1. FC Nürnberg on October 7, 2018. His first goal was his 50th in the Bundesliga.
His performance against Hertha BSC in November 2018 was as notable as his score, as he scored twice in a 3–0 league victory against their opponent. He scored his fifth Bundesliga brace in December.
On January 27, 2019, he played his 100th Bundesliga game for RB Leipzig, and in May, he became the club’s first player to score 50 goals. Aside from that, he appeared in four National Cup matches and scored three goals in 2018-2019. However, his three appearances in the UEFA Champions League did not result in a goal.
On August 30, 2019, he scored his first Bundesliga hat-trick against Borussia Mönchengladbach. He made his 100th Bundesliga appearance for RB Leipzig on October 5, 2019.
On June 18, 2020, he signed a five-year contract with the English Premier League club Chelsea. On September 14, 2020, he made his league debut. Meanwhile, on June 27, 2020, he played his farewell match for Leipzig, scoring two goals in a 2-1 win over Augsburg.
Timo Werner scored his first goal for Chelsea in a 1–1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on September 29, 2020, and his first Premier League goal with a brace against Southampton on October 17, 2020. On October 28, he scored his first Champions League goal against Krasnodar, Russia.
On November 7, 2020, he scored one goal against Sheffield United before going on a scoring drought that lasted 14 games. Finally, he ended his slump by scoring a goal in Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League win over Newcastle United on February 15, 2021.
